Kakao Pay, Kakao Bank and Kakao Pay Securities are different service contexts. A familiar brand name does not make every balance a bank deposit or every transfer subject to the same limit. This guide follows the wallet operation and account status shown in official support.
Identify which product holds the money
Start with the legal provider and product name in the app. Kakao Pay Money is the wallet context discussed here. A Kakao Bank account and a Kakao Pay Securities account have their own conditions; linking one service does not erase those distinctions. The official usage-limit FAQ separates customers with and without a securities account and describes linked-bank status. Read that branch before selecting a number. This guide explains published operations rather than recommending a financial account. It does not treat a securities relationship as a simple trick for avoiding a wallet fee or imply that every displayed balance has identical protection.
Verified limits for the ordinary wallet branch
| Operation or status | Published reference in KRW | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet balance with own bank account linked | 2,000,000 | Holding limit, not an automatic daily transfer allowance |
| Wallet balance without a linked account | 500,000 | Different account status |
| Top-up transaction | 10,000 minimum; 2,000,000 maximum | Available holding capacity still matters |
| Payment transaction | 2,000,000 | Payment operation, not a claim about all transfers |
Holding, funding, payment and transfer limits answer different questions. For example, a wallet already near its balance ceiling cannot necessarily accept the published maximum top-up. The remaining capacity matters. Age, time of day and other account conditions can impose additional restrictions. Check the operation screen rather than combining figures from separate FAQ branches into an imagined universal allowance.
The transfer fee depends on the route
The official transfer-fee policy states that ordinary bank-account transfers for the branch without a securities account include ten free transfers per calendar month, with the count resetting on the first day, then KRW 500 per transfer. Scheduled transfers count toward that allowance. The FAQ also lists exceptions such as transfers to the user’s own linked account and specified friend, code and open-chat routes. Securities-account customers are addressed separately. Consequently, “all transfers cost KRW 500” and “all transfers are always free” are both inaccurate summaries. Inspect the route and final fee before authorising the transaction.
Use a small calculation without confusing the limits
If an eligible ordinary bank-transfer route has already used its ten monthly free transactions, the next such transaction carries the stated KRW 500 fee under that policy. This is a fee example, not a promise that the transfer will be accepted: the account’s remaining daily allowance and security checks still matter. Conversely, a transfer using a listed free exception does not establish that the next unrelated route is free. Keep a note of the transaction type when reconciling a charge. The recipient amount, any fee and the resulting balance are separate values and should be checked separately.
Check the recipient and the purpose
Before confirming, compare the recipient identity, amount and purpose with the intended transaction. A merchant payment, a transfer to a friend and a movement back to a linked account are not interchangeable refund mechanisms. If a seller asks you to send money in order to receive a refund, stop and inspect what the app is actually authorising. Do not share a one-time code or approve an unexpected screen-sharing session. The presence of a familiar payment service does not verify an unknown seller or prove that a ticket offered in a message will be valid.
Choose the support route that matches the problem
Kakao Pay’s official inquiry page separates loss or account restriction, misdirected transfers, phishing reports and purchase disputes. It also distinguishes securities inquiries. State the product, operation, time and transaction reference when asking for help. A mistaken transfer and a merchant cancellation require different facts; do not describe both merely as “money missing.” The emergency loss and phishing route is not a substitute for ordinary purchase support. This article does not promise reversal or compensation: eligibility, evidence and the provider’s actual process determine what assistance is available.
Reconcile a fee with the transaction history
When checking a charge, list the month, transfer route, free-count position, recipient amount and fee separately. A scheduled ordinary bank transfer can affect the monthly count, while a listed free exception follows its own policy. Compare the receipt with the branch in the official FAQ rather than counting every money movement as identical. If the result still differs, provide the transaction reference to support and ask which rule was applied. Do not share the recipient’s full account details in a public discussion.
Before-confirmation checklist
- Read the product and provider name, including any securities-account branch.
- Separate balance, top-up, payment and transfer limits.
- Check the current account status and remaining allowance.
- Read the fee on the actual route, including the monthly free-count condition.
- Verify the recipient independently and keep the transaction reference.
- Use the official inquiry category for the specific problem.
The values above were checked on 23 October 2026 and are bounded to the described support branches. They are not a forecast of future pricing or a guarantee of eligibility for visitors. If the app presents a different limit, do not attempt to work around it by splitting payments; ask the provider which account condition applies.
Frequently asked questions
Is Kakao Pay Money the same as a Kakao Bank deposit?
No. Identify the actual provider and product; a shared brand element does not make a wallet and a bank account identical.
Are ten free transfers available on every possible route?
The quoted rule concerns the specified ordinary bank-transfer branch. Other routes and securities-account status have separate conditions.
Can I always top up KRW 2,000,000 at once?
The published transaction maximum does not override the available wallet holding capacity or account restrictions.
